The Law of Sawfalls Empty The Law of Sawfalls

Here you can read and post about the town rules.

There are currently only four laws:
1. Be kind. This rule is self-explanatory. Not only does it mean you should be helpful, it also forbids acts of theft or griefing as well. This rule is crucial if we are to maintain a hospitable community.
2. Follow the building code. This is explained below.
3. Attend meetings. This is just as crucial as the other laws, because it gives us a strong sense of community, and because it allows every citizen a voice in the democratic process of the city. Meetings are where we vote on things like taxes. Despite its importance, there are no penalties if you miss meetings.
4. If you are not seen for two weeks, your plot may be taken. Although this is not ideal, the city reserves the right to seize your property. It is not guaranteed that this will happen, and as long as you pay your taxes this will only occur if we absolutely need your plot and are unable to get in touch with you. A new plot will be given to you upon your return if this happens, and you may be compensated for lost goods. If you do not build a house within 2 days of moving into town, you may lose your plot and be compensated for your goods upon your return.

All in all, the laws are there to make the city a great place to be.

Now, for the infamous building code. It's there to preserve the colonial/Victorian flavor of the city, and maintain cleanliness and organization. Breaking the building code is considered a serious offense, because it means you likely did not pay attention when we were settling you. Breaking it takes valuable time away from our staff. The building code is as follows:

1. Do not build out of pure dirt, cobble, leaf, ice or obsidian.
2. Do not destroy public walks, rails or areas. ESPECIALLY THE ORE PATHS, DO NOT GRIEF THESE FOR ANY REASON.
3. No open pits. Any hole or crevice that cannot be easily leapt out of in a public area is considered a pit.
4. Plot must have a house. This is to prevent unauthorized public areas, and to keep the city splendid. If you want to make a public area or project, see below.
5. One residential plot per resident. If you want an additional plot, see below. There is an exception to this rule for Knights, who may have up to 4 home plots, not counting shops.
6. You may apply for an additional plot for a public area or building, such as a park or a shop. To apply, /mail send the mayor. You may also appeal for exceptions to the code.
7. All shops must be located on Violin, Seaside or Union streets. The following neighborhoods are exempt from this rule: The Castle Town, the Old Quarter, Lake Azure and Whitecliff Manor. Pubs are also exempt from this rule.
8. One sign only on exterior, including address. Effectively this means you can add a personal message to your address sign. THE MAYOR WILL POST YOUR ADDRESS, BUT YOU MAY MOVE IT TO ANOTHER VISIBLE SPOT ON THE FACADE OF YOUR HOME.
9. Due to lag, personal nether portals aren't permitted. You can also only have 2 animals including your horse, so no mob farms. There is nether access in Old Quarter and Castle Town stations, and you can buy nether items cheaply on the vshop and in town.
10. No stained glass on exterior except gray, light blue or white.
11. No floating structures.
12. Don't rise above 20 blocks. You may dig as deep as you wish, provided you do not interfere with any subway lines under your home.
13. No chests, chestshops, heads or hoppers on the exterior of your home. Exception: you may have one mailbox with a hopper on the front of your house.
14. Public areas have lapis threshold.
15. Do not resell your plot. With the exception of some knight houses sold by the city, all plots and houses in town are free to residents. If you want to move, contact staff to free up a new plot, and then /plot unclaim your old plot once you are moved.
16. Build at least one block back from the path before the house, and leave alleys where possible.

Feel free to make comments or suggestions on any of the above, or to submit rules of your own for consideration.

The Law of Sawfalls Empty Counteracting Possible Permissions Abuse

Post by megef2010 Thu Jan 22, 2015 9:26 am

In light of recent developments with cases of both thievery and griefing we request any town members that witness these actions or are a victim of these actions to report here or in game to a town staff member. If possible we would appreciate it if witness accounts were accompanied by screenshots, which can be taken in game using the F2 key.

Yes, any sketchy activity, esply. breaking and entering into private homes, should be reported. Do not worry about reporting violations of the building code, as that is the job of Sawfalls Police.
